An Affiliate is  the expression  of an extended sales force that a product owneror a value creator is looking for . An online product creation involves a great deal work and knowledge. Since this product needs to be offered for sale the product owner needs an extended sales force to profitably sell the product.. An Affiliate is not employed by a merchant or advertiser whose products they promote,  however a compensation structure will be stablished similar to the one used   for other sales personel in any company or some other seller online.   Some time ago, it seems like another era now, when the affiliate marketing was introduced to the internet  but online users may have tended to have  a reserved opinion about this new movement.  However with technology and internet business procedures having come a long way and changing constantly affiliate marketing is present everywhere. What is called spam is not tolerated online at all. Nobody wants to receive unsolicited emails that are are called junk. And merchants have redifined their approach to marketing pratices. When the affiliates do the spam free marketing a merchant can expect a growing amount of sales to come in. While the merchant does all the handling and shipping of any merchandise envolved, the affiliates receive their portion of the sales as contracted up front. This makes affiate marketing for many, especially newbies, a convenient venue to establish a profitable online business. Through the marketing aspect for an Affiliate the merchant may recognize   that without  affiliates to further their business goals there may not be a business online.  Affiliate Marketing is driven by  entrepreneurship  of the affiliate who is not employed  but rather who can offer a vehicle to achieve better results. Advetising is part of the affiliate's work in order to make the value cretions known to the public and will pay for this product.. Not only producing results for for the information product owner but results and eventually a living for himself or herself. Yes, the affiliates are the backbone for any merchant who has a product for sale. A product creator also the value creators may be a business person or maybe an artist, artisan some one who is a creator rather than a seller of that product. For ages affiliates have existed and have distributed products that others have no time for to work on the sales part . A factory worker produces but is not the sales person.
